Headunit

Sony CDX-C90R serves as a CD-receiver. It's the same unit I used in the older Sebring. This Sony's piece of high-end equipment is known in car audio circles for its good CD sound. The casing is copper plated and D/A conversion is done using Burr-Brown's 20-bit DACs. Unfortunately I don't have any use for them since CD signal is transmitted to DSP via optical cable.

There's also a pair of RCAs which are used when listening to the radio. In my system the signal is fed to a self-made signal switch box, which selects between MP3 player and radio signal.

The second signal source is the mStation MP3 player equipped with a hard disk. The main unit of mStation is located to amplifier rack, but there's a wired remote control on the dash below the Sony headunit. I upgraded the original 10 GB harddisk to 30 GB.

Front Speakers

Front speakers are the good old Diamond Audio M3 series drivers which I used in the previous installation, too. M331i coaxial drivers were placed in the stock locations on top of dash. The driver integrates a 4 inch mid-range and 1 inch tweeter. There are 6.5 inch Diamond Audio M361i mid-bass drivers with fitting rings on the front doors.

Sebring fits great for audio installation, because the dash is very deep and front speakers can be located far away from the listeners as you can see from the accompanying photo. The red dots indicate the places of the speakers. I doubt that you would find more optimum stock locations in any car.

Subwoofer and Amplifier Rack

There are two 8 inch CDT Audio MS-80 subwoofers below the rear deck. The drivers are installed in sealed 10-litre enclosures. The original 6x9" drivers are removed from the rear deck to ease subwoofer sound entering into the cabin.

Amplifier rack is placed on the bottom of the trunk containing six channel McIntosh MC4000M amplifier, Sony XDP-4000X DSP, mStation MP3 player, capasitor and fuse box.

There still plenty of space in the trunk. The spare tire and the jack are also in place dispiting the fact that there's a truck load of hifi in the trunk.

Power

The power wiring was installed in the same way as in the older Sebring: Get power to the main fuse from jump start bolt, run the main power cable under the car and get it in behind the back seat.

A 100 A Lightning Audio ANL fuse protects the 50 square millimeter main power cable. The cable is camouflaged in a black black loom in the engine bay.
